DESCRIPTION:
Just twenty-five minutes from the Port of Limon lays the privately owned Cedar Valley Eco-Reserve: a biological paradise where you will discover a stunning profusion of Costa Rican tropical flora and fauna.
Come and take one of our wagons that will take you through the heart of the rainforest, along with a naturalist tour guide that will enter in a discussion about zoology and botanic of the tropical forest’s ecosystem for like an hour and a half long.
The fearless driver will show you 2 types of poisonous frogs and other variety of species that you may see on the journey. At a moment of the expedition we will reach the highest part of the mountain where you can walk to the great view point where you may see the nature on its totality along with the Banano River. Then, you may cross a bridge of about 300 feet long on a middle height that goes through trees and will give you the chance of observing nature in a different view.
The tour is great for pictures of nature. Howler Monkeys, Sloths, Iguanas, Toucans and many other fascinating wildlife species are common to see during this tour.
After the rainforest expedition, you will have some free time for enjoy one of the most beautiful rivers of the area, located just in front of the main canopy facilities.
The Bananito River has crystalline waters mostly of the time and it is very safe for swimming due its gentle current. Some small rapids and pools can make the experience more excitement and pleasant. The swimming area has been conditioned for an easy river access and with sunbathing platforms and Bar shack. Restrooms and changing rooms are available in the main building.
After this ecological tour, you will visit a banana plantation and packing house, where many interesting facts about this amazing fruit will be explained: The Crop, harvesting, processing, packing and exportation. Costa Rica is the second largest banana producer in the world and 80% of the plantations are located in Limon province, becoming one of the most important economical activities in the region.
During weekdays, you will be able to see the workers doing their job in the fields and the packing house. A very interesting cultural experience that you can’t miss.
